Article: IN MY CLOSET with Lys Conceicao

IN MY CLOSET with Lys Conceicao

We speak to Lys Conceicao, an AfroSwisster since its inception, about her closet.

Tell us a little about yourself. Who is Lys in a few words? I'm a Brazilian woman, wife, and cat mom who moved to Switzerland almost 4 years ago, and I try to bring joy and light anywhere I go.

How did you first discover Onụli? Through the first pop-up event in Zurich, which was partnered with AfroSwissters.

What does fashion or personal style mean to you? It means a way to express myself, communicate the image I want to convey, depending on the occasion, and to feel powerful.

Do you have a favourite piece you’ve bought from Onụli? What makes it special? The set I got from Jermaine Blue is super special to me because I used it on Beyoncé's latest tour.

How does wearing African-designed fashion make you feel? Colourful and Powerful.

What’s your go-to outfit or style when you want to feel confident and powerful? I LOVE dresses and jumpsuits. Unfortunately, winter comes and takes my power and vitamin D away Hahaha, but jokes aside, for the colder months I'm still trying to find myself, but for sure dresses and jumpsuits during the hotter months.

How would you describe your personal style in three words? Colourful, classic, formal.

Lys Con. Speaking to us about closet

What’s one piece of advice you’d give someone looking to build a more intentional wardrobe? Get to know yourself! Fashion is a reflection of who we are, and the more we know who we are, the more we will be drawn to things that reflect what we have inside.

What’s been your favourite memory or experience with Onụli so far? For sure, the first popup store visit. Having so many amazing and beautiful women experiencing the same thing, trying the clothes, hyping each other up, it was an empowering moment.

And finally, what does community mean to you? It means empowerment, recognition, and support. Through fashion, Onụli enables us to connect with these things and meet fellow women who are on the same path!
